The European process of integration, internationalization and globalization pose great challenges for teacher education in Europe. The structures of teacher education must be adjusted; subject matter need to provide an international und European focus. This suggests that strengths should be bundled and thoughts turned towards transnational collaboration and networks for frameworking the modernizing of teacher education. 

With this symposium, the International Center for European Education of the University of Zagreb and Münster, in which over the last three years 11 Universities from 7 countries have been cooperating in the TEMPUS-IV project, Modernising Teacher Education in a European Perspective, will be hosting the closing event of the MOTED-Project. 

The first part of the Symposium (9:00-11:45) focuses on  matters of education policy; the format will consist of a  discussion panel with university representatives and ministers of education from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The participants will each make short statements about modernisation strategies within teacher education aimed at a greater Europeanization of content matter and structures. The panel will present the theme, Modernising Teacher Education – European Perspectives – Transnational Cooperation. It will be chaired by Dr. h.c. Doris Pack, Chairwoman of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament, and by the board members of the Center for European Education. At 11:45, a press conference has been arranged with all the members of the panel. 

The second part of the symposium (13:15-16:30) is has a scientific focus; under the theme, Concepts of European Education – A Foundation for the Modernisation of Teacher Education in a European Perspective, researchers and scientists of the Center for European Education will present various theoretical concepts for Europeanising teacher education for discussion. Three thematic blocks have been planned: European Education as a Concept, Languages and European Teacher Education, Intercultural Learning and European Teacher Education. The goal is to work out recommendation for Europeanising teacher education. This part of the symposium will be chaired by the director of the MOTED-Project. 

Languages of the conference are: Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, German and English. Simultaneous interpreters will be available.
