University of Zadar

The year 1996, in which the 600 th anniversary of the first university on the territory of Croatia was celebrated, gave a strong impetus to the idea of establishing or renewing the University of Zadar. This led to the legal act which constituted the University of Zadar in July 2002 which was passed by the Parlament of the Republic of Croatia and the registration of the University on 29 January 2003.

The first meeting of the Senate was held on 25 March 2003 when the Satute of the Universty of Zadar was passed. Because of this, that day has been proclaimed University Day (Dies Academicus). The University has around 371 employees of which 100 Ph.D. s and 57 M.A.s and significant number of teaching assistants, lectors and lecturers, whih 106 guest professors from others universities from Croatia and elsewhere, and 5800 students on different levels of education (gradulate, postgradulate, supplementary and part-time studnets).

The University of Zadar i san entirely integreted universirty, consisting of 21 departments: Archeology, English Language and Literature, Philosophy, French Language and Literature, Geography, Information and Communication Sciences, Classical Philology, Croatian and Slavonic Studies, German Language and Literature, Pedagogy, History, Art History,  Psychology, Sociology, Italian Language and Literature, Department of Teachers and Preschool Educators, Ethnology and Socio-cultural Antropology, Librarianship, Maritime Affairs and Traffic, Agriculture and Mediterranean Aquaculture (in founding) as well as the Department of Health Science (in founding).

The activities of the University take place on two locations: on the ¨old campus¨, on a very attractive location in the historical center of the city (address: Obala kralja Petra Krešimira IV/2) and at the ¨new campus¨ (address: dr. Franje Tuđmana 24i).
